Biography
Dan Maguire was born to a musical family and raised in Marin Country. The son of Jean Mitchell, a San Francisco Symphony cellist of 35 years and a founder of the Marin Symphony. His sister, Monica Maguire, is an accomplished cellist that has performed with the San Francisco, Marin and Santa Rosa Symphonies.
What we don’t know is why Dan Maguire decided not to play the cello. What we do know is that he grew up listening to his mother practicing Mozart and Beethoven and it wasn’t until his college years at the University of San Francisco that he learned to appreciate classical music. It was around that time that he began to become interested in Bach transcriptions for the classical guitar and this lead to other areas of influences from Spain and Brazil.
His guitar career got sidetracked by a law career, and a bit by an additction to baseball and the San Francisco Giants. Since starting with the guitar nearly 40 years ago, he still has a foot high stack of sheet music of songs he wants to learn. The idea behind this website is to share with some friends an family how that stack is coming along.
